Natural Hair Removal
There are several methods for hair removal; some are natural, some not. The only sure removal method considered permanent by the FDA is electrolysis. Laser hair removal doesn’t get rid of hair permanently, but the treatment lasts longer. Electrolysis and laser hair removal might seem ideal, but they require several expensive and painful treatments to achieve the desired results. There is also a chance that if your technician was not correctly trained that you could have disastrous results like scarring.
However, there are several natural hair removal methods that are not as risky and can be done at home, such as:
1. Soft sugaring
This soft sugar waxing technique combines 1 cup of sugar, ¼ cup of water, and a ¼ cup of lemon juice. It’s applied using a clean small spatula and clean fabric strips. Prepare the hair removal area by cleaning it. Combine all ingredients. Let the sugar wax mixture boil for 5 minutes or until it reaches a light honey color. Let the sugar wax mixture cool for a few minutes and pour into a container. If using glass container heat the container before pouring in the mixture, so the glass doesn’t shatter. Let the mixture cool until it’s the consistency of honey. Apply the mixture with a spatula in the opposite direction of hair growth. Place fabric strip on top of the wax mixture, lightly pressing, and peel off the fabric. Repeat to remove unwanted hair.
2. Hard sugar waxing
This hard sugar wax recipe can easily be made at home by combining 2 cups of sugar, ¼ cup of water, ¼ cup of lemon juice. Similar to the previous soft sugaring recipe, clean the hair removal area first and foremost. Then combine all the ingredients. Wait for the mixture to boil and reach a golden-brown color and remove from stove. Let sugar wax mixture cool for a few minutes and pour into a container. If using a glass container heat the container before pouring in the mixture, so the glass doesn’t shatter. The hard sugar wax technique is for removing hair without fabric strips. Let the mixture cool until tacky and apply with spatula opposite hair growth leaving an edge to pull. Let the sugar wax mixture cool for a few seconds and then peel the sugar wax off. Repeat to remove unwanted hair.
3. DIY hot wax
For this recipe you will need starpil Wax, a hot wax warmer, and clean wax application sticks. First clean the area of intended hair removal to prepare the area. Then apply oil to the skin it— lightly dust sensitive areas like the bikini area and underarms with baby powder. Warm the wax until it melts, and it is the consistency of honey. The wax must be hot enough to remove hair. The wax should not be hot enough to burn your skin. Be careful not to burn yourself. With even pressure use an application stick to apply the wax in the direction of hair growth. Apply in a long section leaving an edge at the end of the wax. Don’t smear the wax thinly or hair removal will not be successful. Let the wax cool. Grab the edge of wax and peel the wax off in the opposite direction of hair growth.
3. Shaving
Shaving is a common method of hair removal. It is the method that almost everyone starts off with. Disposable razors and electric shavers are sold at almost all grocery stores. Shave in the opposite direction of hair growth. Apply a shave gel before hair removal. Ingrown hairs may become a problem. To avoid ingrown hairs use a product like Tend Skin after you have shaved.
